Carol Martin Scholarship
Carol Martin Professional Development Scholarship Sponsored by ViiV Healthcare
This scholarship is named in honour of Carol Martin, a dear friend, colleague, and former ASHHNA Vice-President. Carol, originally from Scotland, practice nursing in various international locations, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Cameroon, before settling in Australia. She contributed significantly to healthcare at Albion St Centre and later served as a Clinical Nurse Consultant at Clinic 16, Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. Carol's expertise extended to her role as a Technical Advisor on the PNG Australia Sexual Health Improvement Program. Carol was a passionate and highly skilled clinical nurse and educator, playing a pivotal role in training numerous HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health professionals. Her enduring legacy lives on through the lasting impact she had on her colleagues and acquaintances.
ASHHNA acknowledges and thanks ViiV Healthcare for their generosity in funding the scholarship.
Aims:
- To encourage further education and professional development for nurses and midwives.
- To encourage nurses and midwives to attend and present their work at relevant conferences.
Value: Up to $2000 will be awarded to attend a conference, workshop, short course, or to undertake a tertiary education subject (conditional on the subject matter of the course being relevant to the specialty field and nursing practice).
Conditions of Funding:
- Funding from this scholarship has been made available by a pharmaceutical company. Recipients may need to declare pharmaceutical company funding in certain circumstances.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered for funding
- Funds are made available on a merit or needs basis
- The ASHHNA Executive utilise specific criteria for applicant selection and the decision on the allocation of funds is final
- If the recipient fails to observe the conditions of the scholarship, the scholarship may be suspended or terminated at any time and any monies paid may need to be returned to ASHHNA
Notification and Payment of Scholarship
- Successful applicants will be informed by email and their names will be published in the ASHHNA Newsletter and on the ASHHNA website. Payment will be arranged by the ASHHNA Scholarship Coordinator and the ASHHNA treasurer. Please note that disbursements will be made exclusively to Australian bank accounts in Australian dollars.
Scholarship recipients are required to:
- Notify the ASHHNA Executive Committee if funds are received from another source. If funding is received from other sources that cover necessary expenses, applicants should return the scholarship to ASHHNA within four weeks.
- Notify the ASHHNA Executive Committee immediately if unable to attend the educational course or conference, or if the course, conference, or research is cancelled. In this instance, the funding must be returned to ASHHNA within four weeks of the cancellation or nonattendance.
- Use the scholarship funds for the intended purpose and provide proof of fund expenditure to ASHHNA Executive Committee within four weeks of activity completion.
- Introduce themselves to representatives from ViiV Healthcare if attending a conference supported by this scholarship where ViiV Healthcare is present.
- Provide a photograph taken with their award, which ASHHNA may share with ViiV Healthcare.
- Provide ASHHNA Executive Committee with a report on the course or conference attended within four weeks of competion of the program. Failure to do so will require scholarship funding to be returned to ASHHNA. The report will remain the property of ASHHNA and will be published in the ASHHNA Newsletter.
- Volunteer (as able) to serve on the ASHHNA scholarship judging panel for the subsequent year, which involves the review and scoring of submissions.
